Derry Varsity Trojans Beat Valley

Derry Varsity Trojans outsted Valley 4-2 on Tuesday.

Derry opened the scoring in the first after Max Doherty singled, scoring one run.

Valley took the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth thanks to singles by Ben Mehalick, and Brett Crawn.

Derry  took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Anthony Sacco doubled to right field, and Cason Long singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Doherty earned the win for the Trojans. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Julian Danko took the loss for Valley. The pitcher went four innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out three and walking four. Long threw one inning of no-run ball for the Derry Trojans in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking none.

Sacco led Derry with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Sacco, Doherty, and Long each collected two hits for the Trojans. The Trojans had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Liam Mcmahen and Doherty led the team with two bases on balls each. Derry turned one double play in the game.

Dom Dunkel, Mehalick, and Crawn each collected one hit for Valley. Mehalick and Crawn each drove in one run for Valley. Valley turned one double play in the game.

Derry is back in action tomorrow with a make up game against valley.
