Derry Varsity Trojans Fall After Strong Showing By Indiana

Derry Varsity Trojans couldn't keep up with Indiana and fell 13-1 on Saturday.

Indiana got on the board in the first inning after Mark Collinger singled, scoring one run.

Max Doherty grounded out, which helped Derry Varsity Trojans tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Indiana took the lead, 5-1, in the top of the second thanks to singles by Tim Birch, and Collinger.

Indiana added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Chace Force grounded out, and Indiana scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.

Indiana scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Carter Putt drew a walk, scoring one run, Birch singled, scoring two runs, and Collinger doubled, scoring three runs.

Jayden Struble stepped on the mound first for Derry Varsity Trojans. The pitcher gave up four hits and five runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking three. Greg Minnick started on the hill for Indiana. The starter allowed one hit and one run over one inning, striking out none and walking three.

Anthony Sacco and John Wasnick were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Derry Varsity Trojans. Doherty led the team with one run batted in. Parker Petrosky led Derry Varsity Trojans with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.

Collinger provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Indiana with five runs batted in. The right fielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Birch and Collinger each collected three hits for Indiana. Charlie Manzi led Indiana with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game.
