First-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Indiana Past Derry Varsity Trojans

Indiana scored seven runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Derry Trojans 12-2 on Thursday.

Indiana jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Ethan Shank singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Charlie Manzi singled, scoring one run, Sully VanHoose singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Carter Putt grounded out, scoring one run.

Indiana added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after the Trojans committed an error, and Putt walked, each scoring one run.

Indiana added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Manzi doubled down the left field line, Derry committed an error, and Caden Force singled to left field, each scoring one run.

Brady Oakes earned the win for Indiana. The starter surrendered two hits and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Cayden Mccune took the loss for the Trojans. The starting pitcher went one inning, giving up seven runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking two.

Collin Barkley and Anthony Sacco each collected one hit for the Trojans. Sacco went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.

Number seven hitter, Force, showed the depth of Indiana's lineup, by leading them with three hits in three at bats. VanHoose led Indiana with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Manzi collected two hits for Indiana in three at bats.

Derry will travel to Greensburg Salem for their next game on Tuesday.
