The Derry Area girls tennis team swept Southmoreland, 5 – 0. In the first singles match, Derry’s Paige King faced Southmoreland’s Lexi Levendosky. King defeated Levendosky 6-3, 6-3. In the second singles match, Melissa Polinsky faced Southmoreland’s Mackenzie Gower, defeating Gower 6-0, 6-0. In the third singles match, Mia Marsh faced Jenna Eutsey of Southmoreland. Marsh defeated Eutsey 6-0, 6-3.
In double’s teams, Derry Area’s Melody Marsh and Amelia Sobota faced Southmoreland’s duo of McKenzie Thompson and Audrey Johnson, defeating Southmoreland 6-1, 7-5. Derry’s second double’s team of Payton Donovan and Claire VanDerWeele faced Cloie Causer and Allison Kramer of Southmoreland. Donovan and VanDerWeele defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-1.
The girls next match is away, Thursday, September 5 at 3:30 against Greensburg Central Catholic at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
