The Derry Area girl’s tennis team defeated Valley High School, 4-1. In the first singles match, Derry’s Paige King faced Valley’s Sophie Harclerode. King defeated Harclerode 6-3, 6-4. In the second singles match, Melody Marsh fell to Valley’s Alexandra Thomey, 3-6, 2-6. In the third singles match, Melissa Polinsky faced Karrigan Thomey of Valley. Polinsky defeated Thomey 6-3, 6-3.
In double’s teams, Derry Area’s Mia Marsh and Amelia Sobota faced Valley’s duo of Lena Fabian and Emma Wiles with scores of 6-3, 6-2. Derry’s second double’s team of Payton Donovan and Claire VanDerWeele faced Emmi Diehm and Victoria Dameron of Valley. Donovan and VanDerWeele defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-3. (These girls had to finish their second set after Section Singles, September 11 at Valley High School due to a lightning delay on Aug. 29, which prevented them from finishing their match.)
