The Derry Area Boys Varsity Wrestling Team put on a dominant performance at the Babbit Duals this past weekend, finishing with an impressive 5-1 record and securing second place overall. The Trojans notched commanding wins over River Valley (59-18), Bentworth (51-15), Southmoreland (50-20), Forest Hills (63-10), and Bellwood-Antis (69-0).

That hot start set up an exciting final showdown against Penns Valley, currently ranked 16th in the state by PA Power Wrestling. In a nail-biting contest, Derry fell just short, losing 26-25 in the final bout. 

Leading the charge for Derry were seniors Anthony Mucci, Giovanni Beatrice, and Brett Klim, who each went undefeated throughout the weekend, providing the team with consistent, high-level performances. Junior Jeremiah Gess and sophomore Brady Brown also finished with perfect records, further bolstering the Trojans’ impressive showing.

The Trojans won’t have much time to rest, as they’re set to return to action this Wednesday, December 11th, when they take on Greater Latrobe at Latrobe High School. Fans can expect another intense matchup as Derry and Latrobe look to continue their strong starts  to the season.
