Sophia Doherty hit three home runs and drove in six as Derry Trojans defeated Jeannette Varsity Jeannette Jayhawks 15-0 on Monday. Doherty homered in the first, second, and third innings.

Derry Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Francesca DePalma singled to center and Doherty homered to center, scoring two runs. Kameryn Dunlap singled, scoring one run.

Derry Trojans added six more runs in the bottom of the third inning on five hits. Kali Henigin singled, scoring one run, Alexa Darazio singled, scoring one run, Francesca DePalma doubled, scoring two runs, and Doherty homered to center field, scoring two runs.

Four more Derry Trojans runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 15-0. Dunlap homered to center field, scoring two runs, and DePalma doubled, scoring the two final runs.

Haylee Myers earned the win for Derry Trojans. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out nine and walking one. Grace Stein took the loss for Jeannette Jayhawks. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up 15 runs (five earned) on 15 hits, striking out six and walking none.

Derry Trojans piled up 15 hits in the game. DePalma and Doherty were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Derry Trojans while hitting back-to-back. Doherty posted 6 RBI’s while DePalma ended up with 4 RBIs. Dunlap, Henigin, and Darazio each collected multiple hits for Derry Trojans. 

Abigail Shaw led Jeannette Varsity Jeannette Jayhawks with one hit in two at bats.

Derry Trojans welcome Southmoreland High School on Wednesday for their next game.
