Sophia Doherty hit two more home runs and drove in three as Derry Trojans defeated Indiana Varsity Indians 9-5 on Friday. Doherty homered in the sixth and first innings.
Derry Trojans came back to win despite trailing 5-1 in the third.
Trojans opened the scoring in the first after Doherty hit a solo home run to center field.
Indiana Varsity Indians jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second when Samantha Martin doubled, scoring one run, and Rylin Blystone homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Kaylee Cass homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third for the Indiana Varsity Indians.
Derry Trojans flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on seven hits to take the lead, 7-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to right field by Kali Henigin that drove in four. Her first of the year. Callie Krause hit a solo home run to further the lead. Her first of the year.
Haylee Myers earned the win for Derry Trojans. The right-handed pitcher allowed 10 hits and five runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking three. Martin took the loss for Indiana Varsity Indians. The starter went two and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking none.
Derry Trojans piled up 14 hits in the game. Henigin, the number seven hitter for Derry Trojans, led the way with four runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Myers went 4-for-4 at the plate with 2 doubles and Francesca DePalma added a triple and 2 singles to lead Derry Trojans in hits. Callie Krause, Francesca DePalma, Doherty, and Bailey Legge each collected multiple hits for Derry Trojans.
Derry is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in section play. They return to section play Monday.
